Saint Nicholas Monastery

Located in the foothills of Clabucet Mountain, Saint Nicholas Monastery dates back to the 17th century and it is dedicated to the Nativity of Virgin Mary (with feast day on September 8). At first, it served as a monk skete, which was destroyed by the Turks in 1788.

Saint Nicholas Monastery was built of wood in 1744 but after being destroyed by the Turkish invasion it has been rebuilt in 1819, from stone and brick, preserved as such until present date. The church is painted in fresco by Nicolae Zugravul and built in byzantine style.

During the years 1835 – 1844 another church was built, dedicated again to the Nativity of Virgin Mary.
